MANCHESTER, VT

— Julie Marie Wojtkowski Lawrence, 56, of Manchester, VT, died tragically on Friday, July 20, 2018 at Lowell Lake in Londonderry, VT. She drowned trying to rescue her five year old grandson, Jaxon Leo Lawrence. Jaxon passed away two days later surrounded by his family. Julie was born in Pittsfield, MA to Conrad Wojtkowski Sr. and Frances Clement on April 30, 1962. Julie graduated from Taconic High School in 1980 before continuing her education at Boston College.

Education and Work

During her junior year at Boston College, Julie joined the Army’s ROTC Program. After graduating, she enlisted in the Army, trained in nursing, making the rank of Captain. In 1988 she was honorably discharged. Julie and her first husband, Robert Rhodes, who was still in the Army, raised their family around the world. In 2002, Julie settled in Vermont and continued her nursing career at Rutland Regional Medical Center. During her time at RRMC, Julie worked as an RN in the ICU, PCU, Emergency Department, and most recently, Diagnostic Imaging. In 2014, Julie met the love of her life, Brian Lawrence, and the two married on July 11, 2015. Together, Julie and Brian enjoyed rides on their motorcycle, stopping at flea markets, visiting friends and exploring Vermont and beyond.

Activities

They took pleasure in camping with family and friends, making memories around the camp fire. Julie was a very active person and loved the outdoors. Hiking and snowshoeing with her dogs, kayaking in the summer, as well as skiing seriously fast in the winter were some of her favorite past times. Julie was always up for an adventure, never deterred by weather conditions. She was definitely tougher than most. Julie was an all-around talented person who enjoyed creating hand painted wooden crafts. Most recently, she had learned the craft of fused glass. She made beautiful jewelry, dishes, frames, in addition to night lights sharing them with family and friends. Julie Marie Lawrence was an avid baker/pie maker, filling many bellies and many hearts. For the past 16 years, Julie participated in a book club, reading every book.

A Joy to be around

A great sense of humor permeated Julie Marie Lawrence. She brought joy wherever she went and made lifelong friends around the world. Her reach was far and wide. Julie was a blessing and will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors

Julie Marie Lawrence was predeceased by her son, Gregory Joseph Rhodes, on October 28, 1994; a brother, Conrad R. Wojtkowski Jr., on November 11, 2016; her mother-in-law, Helen J. Lawrence, on June 3, 2017; and a nephew, Nicholas M. Wojtkowski, on April 13, 2018. Julie is survived by her parents, Conrad and Frances Wojtkowski; her beloved husband, Brian Lawrence; her father-in-law, Leo E. Lawrence; her children, Steven, Christopher, and Matthew Rhodes and Jacob and Brittany Lawrence; her grandchildren, Bryson, Carter, Noah, Aiden, and Ava; her siblings, Michael Wojtkowski (Debra), Lisa A. Brown (Jeffrey), Victoria W. Johnson (Chris); her nieces, Michelle Bartels (Alex), Audrey Wojtkowski, Freja Wojtkowski; nephews, Corey Bassett, Adrien Wojtkowski (Julia), Odin and Wrex Wojtkowski awa well as great nieces, Madelyn Bartels and Sydney Wojtkowski.

Celebration

A celebration of Julie’s life took place Saturday July 28, 2018 at 2pm at Brewster-Shea Funeral Home 34 Park Place Manchester Center, VT. Visiting hours at the funeral home happened on Friday July 27, 2018 from 5-7pm. Make Memorial Gifts in Julie’s memory to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, c/o Brewster-Shea Funeral Home P.O. BONDVILLE, VERMONT —

Joyce B. (Slade) Ameden, 91, life-long resident of Bondville died Saturday morning, July 21, 2018 at Grace Cottage Hospital following a long illness. She was born February 2, 1927 in Jamaica, VT., the daughter of Robert B. and Hazel I. (Lackey) Slade. Joyce received her early education at the Rawsonville & Grahamville schools, graduating from Chester High School. Furthermore, went on to receive a Bachelor of Education degree from Castleton State College. Joyce was an elementary school teacher at the Grahamville and Dorset schools until she married Alwin W. Ameden on August 6, 1948 at the Bondville Methodist church.

Life

Joyce B Ameden worked with her husband in the operation of his caretaking business along with raising her family. Joyce enjoyed square dancing, was a member of the Mountain Home Grange, served the town of Winhall as a School Director, a member of the Beautification Committee as well as assisting with establishing the Winhall Veteran’s Memorial. She enjoyed gardening and the beauties of nature, especially birds. She enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune & Jeopardy, as well as her puzzle books. Joyce cherished time with family and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Alwin as well as her siblings Ora Slade, John Slade, and Ola Balch.

Survivors

Joyce B Ameden is survived by her children Nancy Oakes and husband Robert of Bondville, Randy Ameden and wife Teresa of Bondville, Ron Ameden and fiance Debbie Nadeau of Jamaica, and Robin Ameden of Jamaica in addition to six grandchildren Tim Oakes, Amanda Ameden, Jared Ameden, Angeta Ryan, Ritey Kenney, Andrea Ameden as well as three great grandchildren Kevin and Shawn Oakes, and Addisyn Ryan.

Funeral Information

At Mrs. Ameden’s request, no calling hours took place  – An 11:00am graveside service took place at the Bondville Cemetery on July 26, 2018.  In lieu of flowers, make memorial contributions in Joyce’s memory  to the Grace Cottage Foundation or the Winhall Fire Department, in care of Brewster-Shea Funeral Service P.O. Frank P Bergman, 93, passed away with loved ones after a brief illness Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Glens Falls Hospital.
He was Born January 21, 1925 in Brooklyn, N.Y. as the son of the late Peter John and Ann (Butler) Bergman.

Frank graduated from Jamaica High School in Queens, N.Y. He worked for Western Union as well as being the co-owner of AL and Franks in Bolton Landing. Frank also was in the U.S. Navy as a Sea Bee in 1943-1946 and was a member of the American Legion.

He married Mildred Gloria Blank on February 26, 1950 at Senecal Church in Richmond Hill, N.Y. Frank enjoyed boating, fishing, home improvement projects, horseback riding, collecting Western Union memorabilia, in addition to scuba diving and helping others along the way.

In addition to his parents, Frank was predeceased by his daughter, Patricia Ann; along with his two brothers, Donald and Kenneth Bergman.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Mildred G. (Blank) Bergman; a son, Dr. Frank Bergman and his wife Denise; his grandchildren, Dianna Knight and Alyssa Bergman; his great grandchildren, Evelyn and Alexander Knight; as well his two horses Tara and Sulty; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Calling hours for Frank P Bergman are taking place Wednesday, August 1, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.

A funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 12 p.m., with the Rev. David Beaulac officiating.

Interment with military honors will follow in the Bolton Rural Cemetery.

Burton Ray Monroe, 77, of Warrensburg, passed away Monday, July 16, 2018 at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born July 18, 1940 in Brant Lake, as the son of Richard and Cora (Raymond) Monroe, he attended Horicon Central School. He was a logger and truck driver then onto NYS DEC and NYS DOT until his retirement.  After retirement he loaded trucks for the town of Warrensburg, as well as being a Warrensburg Court Officer for Judge Morgan and Judge Nissen. Furthermore, His favorite job of all was being the Warrensburg School Crossing Guard for many years. He loved to be around the children and making them laugh, even as much as dressing like Santa Claus, or as whatever the time of year it was.  Some of his enjoyments included NASCAR, hunting, and fishing,

Survivors

In addition to his parents, Burton was predeceased by his wife, Janet (Miner) Monroe; sister, Theresa Ray; and three brothers, James, Robert, and Clifford Monroe.  Survivors include one son, Rick and his wife, Mickey Monroe; 2 grandsons, Zachary (Jen) Monroe, and Nicholas Monroe; 4 great-grandchildren; Two sisters, Dorothy Fish, and Ada Cleveland; twin brother, Bernard (Bonnie) Monroe, Donald Monroe, Arnold “Bambi” (Margaret) Monroe; in addition to several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services

Calling hours for Burton Ray Monroe took place Friday, July 20 from 10 a.m to noon at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.  A funeral service  followed at noon at the funeral home with the Rev. HEBRON NY – On July 9, 2018, Lois E Nelson went to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior after a short illness. Born July 30, 1925, the daughter of Earl Hopkins and Edith (Rogers) Wilson of East Hebron, NY. She was a graduate of Salem Academy. On March 29, 1945, she married George Woodard Nelson and spent her life working with George on the family farm where she raised 3 children.

Lois was a social and fun-loving lady who was always involved in various phases of her faith-filled life. She was an active member of the East Hebron Presbyterian Church, the United Church of West Pawlet and most recently, South Granville Congregational Church. She was always willing to lend a hand and more importantly, her heart. She also taught Sunday School.

Her active life and enjoyments were gardening, pottery, cards and board games; Monday, Tuesday and Saturday night cards and the Wednesday dominos and Thursday bible study. She also bowled for many years in the Friday Morning Coffee and Donut League.

Her civic activities included serving on the Hebron election board and the historical society

She and George were active members of the Adirondack Fiddlers for many years.

Lois was predeceased by her parents, husband George W. Nelson, brother Lionel Wilson and Sisters, Mabel Washburn, Mary Adams, Georgia Greeno, Violet Wilson and great granddaughter Meredith Kerber

Survivors

Left to cherish the memory of Lois E Nelson are her children: James (Kathy) Nelson, Pam (Rick) Butler and Daniel (Amy) Nelson. She was blessed with her 12 grandchildren: Mark and Peter Nelson Jennifer Zerbe, Adam, Nathan and Seth Butler, Amy Kerber and Danica Nelson, Nolan, Ethan and Brady Mack, little Roxy and 36 great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Services

A Memorial service was held on Thursday, July 12th at the South Granville Congregational Church at 2:30 pm. Friends called from 1 pm until the time of the service.

GRANVILLE NY – Margaret P Beebe, age 84, passed away at Slate Valley Center (formerly The Orchard) on Saturday June 30, 2018.

Pert was born on January 21, 1934 in Granville, NY the daughter of the late John and Marion (Ware) Williams.

Pert married Maynard “Bud” Beebe on December 5, 1981. Together they owned and operated Beebe’s Thirst Parlor for many years.

For the past year, Pert had been living at Holbrooks Adult Home where she enjoyed keeping Deb Pauquette on her toes. She loved playing games with her grandchildren and friends. She truly treasured time she spent with her family.

Margaret P Beebe was predeceased by her parents and her husband Bud. In addition, she predeceased siblings Joyce Ferrioli, Betty Kelly, Mona Helinski and William D. Williams as well as her children Christine Dockum, Carla Williams , and her son-in-law Joseph Roberts. Left to cherish Pert’s memory are her two daughters Cindy Roberts and Joyce Devino. She was blessed with nine grandchildren. They are Joseph Roberts (Dawn), Scott Dockum (Heidi), Jim Shaw (Leeann), Caenwyn Williams, Victoria Morris (Fred), Jeff Stoddard (Katie), and Brittany Taylor in addition to (Larry) Krissy Thomson (Jeff), Taylor Devino (Dawson). Pert had many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Pert leaves behind a special friend that she met at Holbrook’s, Sam Stark along with many acquaintances she met there.

The family extends a thank you to Holbrook’s and their staff for the love and care they gave her. The Family also Thanks the Slate Valley Center Rehab unit for all the love and care they gave as well.

POTTERSVILLE NY — Sheridan Delbert Hammond, also known as “Pete”, passed away peacefully at his home in Pottersville, New York, Saturday, June 23, 2018. This was after an extended battle with cancer. He was cared for by his wife, Carolyn White Hammond.

Pete was born on Feb. 11, 1942 in Glens Falls, NY, and grew up in Lake George, being the eldest son of Delbert Willard Hammond and Helen (Wolfe) Hammond Brown.

He was preceded in death by both parents, a brother Phillip Hammond, and his cousin Gary Wolfe who was like a brother.

Survivors

Pete is survived by his wife; his daughter, Faith Marie (Dale) Emery of Jamestown, Tenn; a granddaughter, and Domonique Marie Gaudreau of Nashua, NH. He is also survived by a grandson, Richard Daniel Gaudreau of Fryeburg, ME; an adopted son, Kevin Scott Hammond of GA; as well as five step-children, Rachel White, Clark White, Rebekah Myers, Lauralyn White, all of UT, and Justin White of OH.

Pete left the Adirondacks after high school to serve in the Army in Renton, Washington. He fell in love with the west and worked for Caterpillar Tractor as a mechanic in Phoenix, AZ after military discharge. He returned to the Adirondacks in 1966 after his father’s death. Pete left his mark with footprints from Massachusetts to Washington state, and was a member of the Operating Engineers and IBEW. There he helped to build water systems, heavy highway, construction of all kinds including the Million Dollar Beach at Lake George with his dad. He was also a very skilled carpenter building log homes, remodels in addition to other projects from New York to Idaho. In his early years he loved to race everything from dirt bikes to sprint cars.

The Outdoors

Pete Loved the Outdoors, learning trapping at the early age of thirteen on his uncle’s dairy farm in Dorset, VT. He became well known in the industry in the Adirondacks, also living in Idaho, Washington, Alaska, Arizona, and New Mexico. Pete owned and operated H&T Trading Post Trapline Supply. He had the privilege of being the opening demonstrator at the 50th National Trappers Convention in Lima, OH. Much of Pete’s life was spent as a hunting and fishing guide, operating charter services on Lake Ontario and Flaming Gorge Reservoir in Wyoming. He guided hunts in southeast Idaho, his favorite place being Diamond Creek where he even survived a savage black bear attack while on an elk hunt.

NORTH GRANVILLE, NY – Rejolyn Cleve Andrews, age 80, passed away at his home on Sunday, June 24, 2018 after a long illness.

Also known as “Andy”, Rejolyn was born on January 7, 1938 in Granville, NY the son the late Leroy and Lillian (Chamberlain) Andrews.

He was a proud Army veteran serving as a cryptographer.

Rejolyn Cleve Andrews moved downstate at a young age. One of his lifetime highlights was performing on horseback at Madison Square Garden during his teen years. He was a graduate of Arlington High School in Lagrangeville, NY where he was a former track star. He began a career as a corrections officer for the NYS Department of Corrections at Green Haven and later transferred to Great Meadow Correctional Facility.

Rejolyn Cleve Andrews and his wife, Jean purchased a home in North Granville in the late 60’s and raised their family there. Andy’s love of horses extended into his adult years where he shared it with his children. They were frequently at Pond Hill where he helped in the stables as well as rodeos. Andy was also a lifetime member of the Lions Club.

Survivors

Andy was predeceased by his parents, a son Keith and sisters Carolyn and Gwendolyn. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Jean ((Detling) and his children Melissa Andrews and companion Carlton Bradley of Keeseville, NY, and Priscilla Constantine and her husband Craig of Granville, and an adopted daughter Martha Atwood and her partner Carole of Putnam. Andy was also blessed with ten grandchildren: Beverly, Patrick, Zane, Heather (Craig), Amanda (Carl), Ashley (Elmer), Brice, Craig Jr. (Regina), Amber (Zack) and Wyatt in addition to his great grandchildren Kobe, Korrie, Elijah, Malachi, Rosalie, Lucas, Reigan, Craig III, Zachary and Carson along with soon to be born Declan.

GLENS FALLS NY — Roger D Russell, 70, of Stichman Towers, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at his home.

Born August 24, 1947 in Ticonderoga, he was the son of the late Winifred and Lilly (Golden) Russell. He is survived by his sister Laura Russell who lives in Tennessee.

Roger and his family relocated to Lake Luzerne when he was a young boy, where he attended Hadley Luzerne Central School.  After 27 years of dedicated service, Roger retired from Howard Johnson’s.  In previous years Roger worked at Christine’s for three years. The Lake George Steamboat Company enjoyed his company for a year, and Friendly’s did for four years.

Roger had an interest in cars and like collecting models. He enjoyed trips to the airport as well as the Fort Edward Train Station.

Roger has been involved with CWI and has many friends in the community. He always had a friendly “hello” to give everyone.

Services

A graveside service will take place Friday, June 29, at 11 a.m. at Bay Street Cemetery in Glens Falls with the Rev. Patti Molik, Pastor of Hudson Falls United Methodist Church officiating.
