Schenectady, New York – Robert Dean (Bobby) Spence, 77, of Schenectady, NY, passed away on December 15, 2022 in Schenectady after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Church, 600 State Street, Schenectady, NY on March 10th with Reverend Dominic Isopo of St. Joseph’s Church officiating with internment following at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, 2501 Troy-Schenectady Road, Niskayuna, NY.

Bobby was born in Lynn, MA to Robert Dean Spence and Rita Galvin Spence on January 11, 1945. The eldest of six children, Bobby went to St. Mary’s High School in Lynn and graduated in 1963. He went on to earn a degree in public accounting from Siena College and graduated in 1967.

During the Vietnam War, Bobby was stationed in Seoul Korea and served with the US Army Military Police. It was there that he met the love of his life, Soon Ja Yang, whom he married in 1973.

He worked for more than 30 years as an accountant for the New York State Education Department, starting in the Bureau of Budget Coordination and finishing his career as Supervisor, Fiscal Management.

He took up tennis in his early 30s and made life-long friends on the courts. In addition to his weekly card games, Bobby was a loyal Siena College basketball fan and faithfully attended games with his best friend.

Friends and loved ones will miss his kind nature and his endless telling of jokes.

Bob is survived by his wife of 49 years, Soon Ja Spence, of Schenectady; his sister Janet Maday (Charles) of Dover, NH, his brother Paul Spence (Valerie) of Gibsonia, PA, his sister Rita E. Spence of Washington, DC, his brother William D. Spence of Garden City, NY, and his sister Mary Spence Smith (David) of Oakton, VA.

He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Dean Spence, Sr. and his mother, Rita C. Spence.

Schenectady, NY – Samantha Valentine Humphrey – On November 25, 2022, Samantha Valentine Humphrey, 14, lost a short but ferocious battle with evil itself, and passed into infinity. Sammy, who was born in Metairie, Louisiana, is survived by a multitude of loving and devastated family and friends, who will remember her with joy and pain until they follow.

She is also survived by her adored cats, and Zoey and Bruno, loving and loyal mutts blessedly unable to understand their loss of a best friend.

Samantha was and is a light in the dark, with talents, loves, and dreams. Her Brother-in-Arms Mattox Akira Humphrey will carry that flame for us as we fade.

A brief memorial service will be held Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady, at promptly 2pm, to be followed by visitation until 4pm.

Her ashes will grace the bright ocean beaches she loved and missed.

John “Jack” M. Wrenn 72, of Halfmoon, passed away on November 15, 2022, surrounded by his family. Jack was born and raised in Astoria, NY. on September 15, 1950.

John graduated from Manhattan College and moved upstate to start his career at Ellis Hospital as Head of Admitting and met the light and love of his life, Brenda. Jack married Brenda and had two children, Meaghan and Brendan.

Jack and Brenda planted roots in Colonie, where he was an active member of St. Clare’s Church. Jack loved coaching and supporting both children’s extracurricular activities.

He spent the later part of his career working for the Department of Health but his greatest joy was being “Papa” to his three beautiful grandchildren.

Jack loved the Yankees, and anything baseball, he was our Mr. Yankee. Jack knew all baseball trivia and was a wealth of knowledge, lending an answer to his wife’s crossword puzzle dilemmas.

Jack was the best storyteller and loved his family more than life itself.

Jack is survived by his wife, Brenda Wrenn; daughter Meaghan White (Ed); son Brendan Wrenn (Kerry); grandchildren, Henry, Charlotte and Maxwell; and brother, Patrick Wrenn. He is preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Elizabeth Wrenn.

Calling hours will be held at Daly Funeral Home on Monday, November 21, 2022 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Interment will be Tuesday in the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery with family and close friends Jack asks that any and all memorial donations be made to Catholic Charities, 40 N. — John W Allen, 96, of Schenectady, passed away at the Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs on Monday, August 6, 2018. Born in Salem, NY, he was the son of the late Elliott and Elizabeth (White) Allen.John served his country in the Army during World War 2. He was the owner and operator of Allen’s Confectionary in Schenectady. John was also employed for several printing companies around the area.

Avocations:

John W Allen was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. In his early youth he was a baseball pitcher and was recruited by the New York Yankees.

Predeceased by:

Mr Allen was predeceased by his wife, Adeline (Sienka) Allen; one daughter, Amy Baltazar; two brothers, George Allen and James Allen; as well as one sister, Mary Linendoll.

Survivors:

John is survived by four daughters, Beth Kost (John) of Schenectady, Cathy Devine of Charleston, SC, Dawn Ferrier (Robert) of Gansevoort, NY and Elaine Gregorie (Daniel) of Goose Creek, SC. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, along with nieces and nephews.

Services will be private. Internment with military honors will be at the Gerald B H Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
