Roxbury, Massachusetts – It is with deep and heavy sadness to announce the death of Bruce Nance.
Our deepest and heartfelt sympathies are extended to the family of Bruce Nance during their time of bereavement.

Bruce Nance was born in Gibson North Carolina on December 12, 1935, to LJ and Bertha Adams Nance. After high school, he joined the Army and was stationed at a Nike Base in Belle Isle Michigan. While stationed near Detroit he met and later married Gloria Bates. From that union they had three children; Berneta who preceded him in death, Bruce Jr., and Keith.

He leaves two sisters and a brother, Mildred Nance of Canton MA, Gladys Nance Irwin of Burlington MA and Ernest Nance of Rockingham NC. Also grieving his loss are his grandchildren and great grandchildren, his brother-in-law Barry Irwin of Burlington MA, his many nieces and nephews, and a host of relatives and friends. He was a bright light in the family and will be sorely missed.

Pittsfield, MA – John P Murphy Sr, 90, of Pittsfield, passed away at Berkshire Medical Center on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Pittsfield, MA, on February 11, 1932, the son of the late James A. and Myrtle E. Smith Murphy, he was a 1949 graduate of St. Joseph High School.

Mr. Murphy retired as a compositor for the Berkshire Eagle in 1990, after 41 years of service. He served on the scholarship committee and as secretary of the Monday Morning Quarterback Club.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Bernice Kordana Murphy, and his two sons, John P. Murphy, Jr., and his companion Doreen Jamross of Pittsfield, and T. Wayne Murphy and his wife Susan of West Springfield. He leaves his grandchildren, Cari Lawler, JP Murphy, Ryan Murphy, Kelli Woodward, and Brendan Murphy, as well as his eight great grandchildren, Jazmyn, CJ, Mikaela, Leah, Jack, Vanessa, Daniel and James. John is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Jeanne D. Cawley, as well as seven brothers, Edward, James, Bernard, William, Raymond, Arthur, and Thomas, and his sister Mary.

Funeral services for John P. Murphy, Sr., will be private. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North Street, Pittsfield MA 01201.

North Adams, MA – John T Gould (Jack), 78, passed away at his home in North Adams, MA on December 17 after a 3+ year battle with cancer.

He was born on June 20, 1944, to John Gould and Helen Reardon Gould. He graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in 1962 and attended the University of Notre Dame. He first worked for Colonial Brush in Boston as a manufacturing accountant. He returned to North Adams to raise his family with his former wife, Jacqueline Dupuis Jette, and worked for Arnold Lumber in Adams. He then managed the home center at KK Home Mart for several years.

He was last employed at the North Adams Housing Authority. Jack came out of retirement briefly as the Director of Louison House as they searched for and trained a new Director.

Jack served as President of Northern Berkshire United Way for a two-year term as well as holding several other positions as Vice President. Until recently, he was President of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He also volunteered at the Northern Berkshire Scenic Railway as a conductor and narrator. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish serving as sacristan until recently. For years Jack also served as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and trained altar servers. In addition to his volunteer work, Jack enjoyed entertaining, cooking, gardening, and creating elaborate landscapes for his model trains, “Go Irish”.

Jack was predeceased by a son John and a daughter Kathleen.

He leaves a daughter, Jennifer Casey (Robert Wolfinger) of Pittsfield, a son, Robert (Caren Nessen) of New Zealand, and two grandsons Richard Casey and Nicholas Lopenzina, both of Pittsfield. He also leaves two sisters, Mary Boulger of North Adams and Eileen Lane of Plymouth, MA; five nieces Carolyn Karlson, Ellyn Lane, Sharon Wallace, Michele Baird, and Catherine Dupuis Parker; and five nephews Richard and Patrick Boulger, Brian Lane, and Michael and Marc Dupuis; and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Calling hours at the Flynn & Dagnoli Funeral Home West Chapel will be held on Wednesday, December 21 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 22 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish in North Adams MA.

Andover, Massachusetts – Alexandra “Joan” Conroy, 97, of Andover, Massachusetts died Saturday December 17,2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 6,1925 in Derby, England to the late Timothy and Alexandrina (McCartney) Reddy.

During WWII she met and married the love of her life, the late Herbert “Con” Conroy, a Staff SGT in the American Army Air Corp. They celebrated 70 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2015.

 She moved to the United States and raised two children, working numerous jobs as a bookkeeper and retiring at 71. Joan was very active in her church, The Free Christian Church of Andover, MA.

Joan was predeceased by her parents, her son James Conroy, sisters Myra Dreher and Heather Monk. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn J. Conroy, a son David and his wife Barbara (Ellis) Conroy, two grandsons Daniel Conroy and David Michael Conroy, Jr. and his wife Danielle, great granddaughter Riley and great grandson Ryan Conroy, as well as nieces and nephews.

Nashua, NH – Robert Brian Welts, 89, died Monday, November 28, 2022, at the Courville Nursing Home in Nashua, NH. He was born June 11, 1933, in Milton, MA, to parents Harry and Josephine Welts. He was the husband of Rose (Catalano) Welts. They enjoyed over 47 years of marriage before her passing in 2007.

Bob graduated from Milton High School, Milton, MA, in 1950. He went on to graduate from Boston College with a Bachelor’s in Business and Accounting in 1954, and a Juris Doctorate from Boston College in 1957. He also earned an LLM (Master of Laws) from Boston University. Bob started practicing law in Nashua in 1957, and by 1978, he started his own firm which later became Welts, White and Fontaine. He served Nashua for over 63 years until his retirement in early 2021.

Bob enjoyed being involved in the community. He joined the Knights of Columbus and Junior Chamber of Commerce when he first moved to Nashua. He was a past President of the Nashua Bar Association and was awarded its highest honor- The Lifetime Achievement Award. He was a former chairman of the Nashua Zoning Board as well as a member of the Nashua Board of Alderman.

Along with skiing and tennis, Bob loved to run. He was a member of the Gate City Striders and competed in the last four National Senior Games in both the Road Racing and Track and Field Divisions. He had completed many 5 and 10k races in his life, averaging about 20 a year. He was also a big Boston College Football fan and had season tickets for over 40 years.

Bob is predeceased by his wife, Rose Welts

He is survived by his son, Ryan Welts, and his grandchildren, Zoe and Hannah Welts. He is also survived by his good friend, Patricia Legere.

SERVICES: A visitation will be held Sunday, December 4, 2022, from 12 to 2 pm, at the Davis Funeral Home, 1 Lock St, Nashua, NH. A graveside service will take place 10 am on Monday, December 5, 2022, at East Cemetery, 24 Wheeler Road, Hollis, NH. Family and friends are invited to attend. GLENS FALLS, NY – Dr. Herbert G. Saunders, 94, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Home of the Good Shepherd in Moreau, New York following a long illness.

Dr. Saunders was born in Lynn, Massachusetts on February 20, 1924, one of three sons of the late Henry P. and Gladys Hodges Saunders.  He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946.  On September 12, 1947, he married Patricia Sim, and he studied at Columbia University and University of Pennsylvania Dental School.  He practiced dentistry in Orange, Connecticut for more than forty years before moving to Glens Falls, New York.  Herb was a Mason, and he made many friends though his interest in buying and restoring antique furniture.

Survivors

Dr. Herbert G. Saunders was predeceased by his wife Patricia, his son Jonathan D. Saunders, and his brothers Richard L. Saunders and Robert H. Saunders.  He is survived by his sons Douglas S. Saunders and wife Helen C. Saunders of Somerset, Massachusetts, Dr. Richard A. Saunders and wife Beth S. Saunders of Queensbury, New York, in addition to grandson Christopher A. Saunders and Helen’s daughter, Beth Miranda, by his sister-in-law Peggy Saunders of St. Andrews, New Brunswick,  as well as nieces Linda, Jean, Patricia Lynn, and Pamela, and nephews Stephen and Gregory.

Services for Dr Herbert Saunders

Calling hours will take place Saturday, April 28, from 11 a.m. to noon at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.

A memorial service follows at noon at the funeral home, with the Rev. Meredith Vanderminden, pastor of Christ Church United Methodist, officiating.

Interment is at the Orange Cemetery in Connecticut at a later time.
