Queensbury, NY – Allan James Ferrie, 82, of Sunnyside East, Queensbury Passed away unexpectedly on November 26, 2022. Born on December 2, 1939 in Hackensack, N.J.
He was the son of John Ferrie and Norma Elliot-Ferrie.

Allan graduated in 1957 from Ridgefield N.J. Park High School then he went on to graduate from Wagner College in Staten Island in 1961. He received his Master’s Degree in English Education from New Paltz University College, 24 credits in Russian at Vassar 10 credits in Russian at Dartmouth College and a National Defense Scholarship.

He taught English in Greer School, English Sr. High in Kingston, NY 1962-1965. He also taught English in Glens Falls High School from 1965 to 2001.

He was inducted into the Wagner Hall of Fame in 1995. He was very active in N.E.A and AFT teachers serving as a delegate for 25 years. In the summers from 1992 to 1995, he taught English at Washington County Correctional Center to prepare them for their GED. Allan was the President of his class at Wagner College his Jr. and Sr. years. Named two time All American in 1959.

Upon graduation, he was drafted into the Minnesota Vikings and played in the Senior Bowl.

He served at the Christ Church United Methodist as chairperson of the Administrative Board for 2 years. In addition, he served as Trustee for 3 years at the Harrisena Community Church, President for 3 years and Church Clerk. He was a member of the American Legion for 10 years.
Al was a “World Traveler” with wife Brenda.

Allan was in the Naval Reserves Seabees (20 years). First class in charge of RNMCB 12 Command Service Record, Rhode Island. He was recalled to active duty for Dessert Storm and Construction/ Reconnaissance missions at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Allan married Brenda Mary Ferrie on August 29, 1964 and had two children a daughter Melissa L. Ferrie Healy, music teacher married to Michael Healy; a son John Gareth Ferrie, science teacher, married to Kimberly Kerschner Ferrie.

He was predeceased by his sister Jill Kamena and brother in law David Kamena; and sister in law Rachael Howard.

Survivors include Brenda Ferrie of Queensbury, his daughter Melissa Ferrie Healy and husband Michael Healy of Glens Falls and his son John Ferrie and wife Kimberly Ferrie of Middle Grove, grandchildren Ryan Allan and Matthew Holden of Glens Falls, Jillian Ferrie, Grace and Drew Ziehnert.
There will be a celebration of Allan’s life on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at 11am at Harrisena Community Church, Queensbury. A light reception to follow in the Harrisena Fellowship Hall.

Catskill, NY – Donald Porter, 82, of Catskill passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, December 17, 2022. 

He attended and graduated from Catskill High School in 1957.

Donald joined the United States Air Force in December 1957 and served 4 years. He then entered the New York State Police where he worked from 1962-1990. During that time, he was a NYSP scuba diver, firearms instructor and worked on the Thruway. After retiring from the State Police he became a fraud investigator for the Fraud & Recovery Unit of Greene County for 26 years.

He was a lifelong member of the Catskill Elks Lodge and Catskill Country Club. He also enjoyed spending his summers golfing and boating.

He is survived by his wife Lois Porter of 52 years; daughter Kiersten (Porter) McClellan, son in law Jason McClellan and two grandchildren Jayden & Keegan McClellan.

He is predeceased be his mother Sarah Porter, father David Jr Porter, and his sister Helen O’Donnell.

Family and friends may gather at Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill. A memorial service will be held at Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow in the Town of Catskill Cemetery.

— Barbara E Suraci of Wilmington, Vermont, age 82 and a resident of Blue Brook Road, passed away November 26, 2018 at her home. Barbara was born in Jersey City, NJ on August 25, 1936 the daughter of the late Robert Leigh Eilenberg and Josephine Rehak-Peroh.

Barbara studied ballet with the Mortkin Ballet Company of New York City. In 1952 she moved to London, England with her family and continued with her ballet studies. She danced with the Corp de Ballet in France. In addition she studied concert piano with Moira Hess. In 1956 Barbara returned to the United States and graduated from Jersey City State College with a B.A. Degree in Education. She earned a Master of Arts degree in 1961 from Seton Hall University and completed the academic studies for her doctorate in School Psychology at New York University.

Barbara was very active in the Windham Vermont Sailing Club, owned and operated Leigh’s Curio’s in West Dover and cherished times with her family especially raising her grandchildren.

Barbara is survived by her grandchildren Anthony Samani and Chelsea Samani of West Dover and nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband of 28 years, Anthony B. Suraci, PHD, who passed away August of 1991.

Funeral Information

Graveside funeral services for Barbara were held Monday December 3, 1028 at Union Cemetery Leigh Street and Alton Place Clinton, NJ. There were visiting hours. A celebration of life in Vermont will be announced at a later date.
