 — Bernard L. Barriere, Jr. 76, a resident of Hewitt Drive, passed away Tuesday November 27, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. Bernard was born in Pittsfield, MA on February 10, 1942 the son of the late Bernard L. Barriere, Sr. and Norma Stossel. He attended Pittsfield High School. Bernard worked in the automobile business as a car dealer for many years.

He loved country singer Willie Nelson and his band, He and Wille were longtime friends, and attended many of his concerts over the years. He enjoyed antiques and attending antique auctions. He was also a movie buff and had a great interest in the film industry. His true passion was spending time with his family and friends at his cabin in White Creek, NY.

Barriere, III of North Bennington and Colleen Fleck and her husband Sigmund of Malvern, PA, step children Daniel Bona and his wife Teri Hazelton of Otis, MA and Elizabeth Barnhill and her husband Jack of Petersburg, NY, brothers Thomas Barriere of Pittsfield, MA and Robert Barriere of McAllen, TX, and sister Linda Barriere of Lee, MA., seven grandchildren, Jazmine Alibozek, Emilyn Bona, Maggie Bona, Blake and Maxx Barnhill, and Nolan and Kyle Fleck and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn Bona Barriere who passed away August 6, 2008, step-son Jake Bona and brothers John and Richard Barriere, and sister Marie Barriere.

Funeral Information

A mass of Christian death and burial was celebrated Saturday Morning, December 1st, 10:30, at St John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington. Interment followed in the family lot in Pittsfield Cemetery, Pittsfield, MA. Visiting hours was held Friday Nov. 30 from 4-7pm at Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home 213 West Main Street Bennington, VT. — Susan Louise Blay, 63, a resident of Covered Bridge Road in Arlington, Vt, passed away November 17, 2018 at Albany Medical Center. Susan was born in the Bronx, NY on April 4, 1955 the daughter of William T. and Eileen Grube Gomeau. She attended school in Manhattan, NY and upon moving to Massachusetts she graduated from Hoosac Valley High School in Cheshire, MA. Susan worked as a sewer for WCW Manufacturing and previously worked as a LNA and for Manchester Woods for a couple of years.

Susan loved driving and coordinated a lot of fund raising events for the Arlington Volunteer Fire Department and school fundraisers when her children attended school. She enjoyed listening to the music of the oldies and was a New York Yankee baseball fan. She is survived by her children Elizabeth Billings and her husband Ralph and Eileenann M. Sargood and her husband Jeff both of Arlington, her mother Eileen Gomeau, father-in-law Joseph Blay of Adams, MA, sisters Margaret Bertoli and her husband George of Florida and Yasmine Sarkis of North Adams, 9 grandchildren and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband David Blay whom she married in North Adams, MA. Mr. Blay passed away February 13, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her brother William Gomeau, Jr. and father William T. Gomeau.

A time of visitation for Susan was held Friday November 23, 2018 from 4-6pm with a service following at the Chapel on the Green in Arlington, VT. — William E Thurber, or William E. ‘Chic’ Thurber 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday October 24, 2018 in Hoosick Falls. The son of William and Anna Thurber, he was born in Walloomsac on May 6, 1925.

A veteran of World War II, he served with the US Navy aboard the USS Shubrick and took part in the invasion of Normandy, Okinawa and South France before the ship was bombed. Chick had worked for many years as a Transportation Specialist for Niagara Mohawk for 38 years. He was a lifetime member of the Elks, V.F.W., Derby club and the American Legion. In earlier years, he had been an avid baseball and softball player along with trying out for the New York Giants. He was an avid New York Yankee fan and thank God will not see the series this year!

He leaves his daughter Lee Ann(Al) Wooddell of Cambridge, NY, sons William “Butch” Thurber (Candace) of South Carolina, James Thurber (Karen) of Colorado, and John Thurber (Darlene) of Burnt Hills, NY, in addition to many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Kathleen (Moon) Thurber as well as brothers Joseph and Edward Thurber.

Richard Joseph Dorr— Richard Joseph Dorr, 82, formerly of West Arlington, VT, passed away Friday September 28, 2018 at the Vermont Veterans Home. Richard was born in Rutland, VT on December 13, 1935 the son of the late Milton and Doris (Carter) Dorr and attended local schools.

Richard worked as a production expediter, retiring from Stanley Tools after many years. He also worked at the Cullinan Store as a butcher. Richard was a former member of the Arlington American Legion and was a United States Navy Veteran of WWII serving in Okinawa, Japan for 8 years.

Richard loved hunting and listening to country music. He loved siting on his front porch, his Jeep, four wheeler rides, camping and picnicking. He was always willing to help others.

Richard is survived by his children Brian Dorr of Syracuse, NY, Bruce Dorr of Chandler, Arizona, Brenda Dunlap of Arlington, VT, Jennifer Downey of Buckeye, Arizona and Jeff Dorr of Pembroke, NH, sisters Patty Petty and Maryanne Bruso both of Rutland, VT and Judy Bailey of Pittsford, VT in addition to 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Yvonne (Cross) Dorr whom he married March 2, 1957 in Arlington, Mrs. Dorr passed away May 25, 2011. Brothers Buddy and Reggie Dorr as well as sisters Beverly Rosmus and Bunny Munson pre-deceased Richard.

Barbara A MorrowGRANVILLE, NY – Barbara L Morrow, age 70, passed away unexpectedly at Saratoga Hospital on Sunday, September 23, 2018.

Barbara was born on October 30, 1947 in Granville, New York the daughter of the late Stanley and Marion (Aldous) Braymer.

She was married to the love of her life, Donald Morrow for 54 wonderful years.

Barb enjoyed traveling and went to Virginia, California and Florida (Williamsburg, Disney and SeaWorld) with Donald and her family. She looked forward to more travel, especially going to the Bahamas, but that was not meant to be.

She loved spending time gardening and had beautiful gardens all around their property. Donald built her a gazebo, and she surrounded it with flowers. From there she could observe the horticulture and watch the birds enjoying the gardens, especially the hummingbirds, cardinals, and orioles.

Barb loved life with her grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with them at family and school events and having visits with them.

She was a collector. She had an extensive angel collection along with Will Moses prints. She was happy to be a contributor to a number of local charities; including the veterans and the local food pantry.

She was a member of the Revive Church in Poultney. She cherished her relationship with the members of the congregation.

Barb loved to plan and hold parties. She enjoyed the organizing and especially the decorating. When anyone in her family needed a party, they would call her and she would enjoy every minute of the process.

Barb loved family gatherings on holidays. She would cook elaborate meals and everyone would meet for amazing food and great conversation. Christmas was her favorite holiday. She would create a Christmas wonderland in her home, with decorations everywhere you looked. She so enjoyed watching her grandchildren’s faces as they opened their presents. She truly made Christmas special and magical for everyone.

Barb was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Richard. She is survived by her husband Donald, a daughter Susan Kirkland (Donald) of Granville, 2 sons; Robert Morrow of Queensbury and William Morrow Sr. (Michelle) of Hartford. She was blessed with her 10 grandchildren Noah Morrow and Chase Kirkland, Tara McClenning, Amber and Hunter Morrow, William Morrow Jr., Jonathon, Dakota, Ryan and Destiny Morrow. She will be immensely missed by her family, as well as, her brother Arthur Braymer (Donna) of Hartford, and sisters Betty Braymer of North Granville and Phyllis Morey (Francis) of Granville who survive her, along with her canine companion Abby.

A funeral service will be held at 7:30 PM on Friday, September 28, 2018 at the Robert M King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville, NY with the Pastor Derrick Kerby. Friends may call from 5:30 until the time of the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Northeastern Area, 440 New Karner Rd. Albany, NY 12205 in her memory.

Born in St. Bernadin, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of the late Alfred and Laurette (St. Onge) Lavigne. She retired from Glens Falls School District after 27 years, also working at the Glens Falls Civic Center and as a Warren County Election Inspector for many years. Marina was actively involved in her community. She belonged or volunteered for St. Anne’s Solidarity, Home Bureau, Girl Scouts, Boys Scouts, Glens Falls Little League and the PTA. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Alphonsus Church and later became a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Fort Edward. In their earlier years, Marina and her husband were actively involved with the Holiday Ramblers, the Glens Falls Indians Grandstanders and enjoyed camping in Minerva and snowmobiling. In their later years, they enjoyed their camp on Northwoods Club Road and wintering in Florida. Marina’s hobbies included knitting, quilting, sewing, bowling, cooking, baking and traveling. She loved spending countless hours working in her yard and garden. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Marina was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Donald S. Wallace, who died in 2003 and by her sisters Murielle Henderson and Ruth Phillips.

Survivors

She is survived by her son Michael Wallace (MaryAnn) of South Glens Falls, NY; son Scott Wallace (Lisa) of Finksburg, MD; daughter Ann Fuller (Gary) of East Greenbush, NY and grandchildren Paige Fuller, Austin Fuller, Sam Wallace and Sara Wallace. She is also survived by her brothers Laurier Lavigne and Neil Lavigne, sister Dorette O’Keefe; sisters-in-law Joan Lavigne, Jeannette Lavigne, Marcia Corriveau, Deborah Wallace and Joyce Brown; her brother-in-law Richard Phillips and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were held from 5 to 8 PM on Friday, September 28, 2018 at Singleton Sullivan Potter Funeral Home, 407 Bay Rd., Queensbury, NY.

Services

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 AM on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Church, Fort Edward, NY. Burial followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery, South Glens Falls, NY.

— Nancy Corliss Castle, a longtime resident of Bennington, passed away peacefully at Crescent Manor Nursing Home on  September 20, 2018 at the age of 81. The daughter of the late Theodore A. and Bernice L. (Watt) Corliss, she was born in Bennington, VT on October 5, 1936.

Her family had relocated to Bennington where her father worked as an Industrial Engineer with H T Cushman Manufacturing. Nancy was a graduate of Bennington High School, Class of 1954, she continued her education at Mary Fletcher Hospital in Burlington where she trained to become an X-Ray Technician. She worked in the former Putnam Memorial Hospital (now Southwestern VT Medical Center), Faulkner Hospital in Jamaica Plain, MA , Mt Auburn in Cambridge , MA and Mary Fletcher Hospital. Nancy was also a Medical Records Transcriptionist at Putnam Memorial Hospital. She had resided in the Boston area from 1956-1962 returning to Bennington in 1963.

She was a member of the Fellowship of the Second Congregational Church and a former member of The Plain Dirt Gardeners. Nancy was an avid reader and loved reading historical novels.

She leaves her son Douglas Corliss Castle and wife Sue Lornitzo of Bradford, daughters Debra Corey of Tempe, AZ and Amy Castle of Bennington, grandchildren Hannah Corey, Sarah Corey, Bryan Alderman and wife Sarah, great grandchildren Landen James Alderman and Alaina Alderman, former son in law Gary Corey, former husband William A. Castle Jr., nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her grandson Luke James Alderman.

Funeral Information

Graveside funeral services were held at the Center Shaftsbury Cemetery on Saturday September 29 at 11am with Reverend Mark Blank pastor of the Second Congregational Church officiating. A memorial reception followed the graveside service in the lounge of the Second Congregational Church. The family received friends at the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home on Friday evening September 28 from 6-7pm. Jerry was born in Cambridge, NY on October 7, 1934 the son of the late Donald Henry and Thelma Louise (Lant) Coulter. He was of Scottish/Irish descent, with his Coulter ancestors having arrived in Cambridge before the Revolutionary War. Jerry attended schools in Cambridge and attended Burr & Burton Seminary in Manchester. In his early years Jerry worked for Mack Molding and then started his own business, owning and operating Coulter Plumbing & Heating for 54 years.

He was a devoted member of the Bennington Seventh Day Adventist church. Jerry was an avid New York Yankee baseball fan and enjoyed working around his home tending to his garden, flowers and trimming his shrubs. He enjoyed golfing, camping, skiing and hiking. He also enjoyed traveling to England, Scotland, Ireland, Bermuda, Mexico and Canada. Along with his wife Marjorie, he traveled the United States in his RV and enjoyed listening to country music especially Glen Campbell and Johnny Cash.

Paul A Ennis SrARLINGTON VT

— Paul A Ennis Sr., a resident of Sunderland Hill Road passed away August 23, 2018 at Albany Medical Center. Paul was born in Bennington on October 15, 1941 the son of the late Paul F. and Aileen (Tifft) Ennis. He attended Arlington schools, graduating from Arlington Memorial High School. Paul worked as a telephone lineman and installer for over 30 years. Along with his sons operated a maple sugaring business for over 60 years. Paul enjoyed hunting, especially deer and turkey and enjoyed fishing. He liked pitching horseshoes, playing bingo, following NASCAR and the NCAA basketball tournament.

He enjoyed playing games on the computer and cherished times spent with his family and watching his great grandson Aiden play basketball. He enjoyed traveling to Alaska and according to his granddaughter was the wisest man she knew. Paul was also a life member of the Arlington Volunteer Fire Department and Fire Warden for the town of Sunderland for over 50 years.

Survivors

Paul is survived by his wife of 59 years Anna (Hill) Ennis whom he married November 8, 1961 in Manchester, VT, son Paul A. Ennis, Jr. of Sunderland, grand daughter Sara Ennis of White Creek, NY, great grandson Aiden Ennis in addition to nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his son Steven Ennis and sister Barbara Goddard.

Funeral Information

Funeral services for Paul A Ennis Sr were held Tuesday August 28, 2018 at 1pm at Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home Arlington, Chapel Route 7A Arlington, VT. Interment will follow in the family lot in Ira Allen Cemetery in Sunderland. Visiting hours at the funeral home were held Monday August 27, 2018 from 5-7pm when the family will be in attendance.
