Shaun E Flaherty Jr

Shaun E Flaherty Jr

Kittery, ME — Shaun E Flaherty Jr, 52, of Balsam Lane in Kittery died on January 26, 2019 at his home – the result of a tragic fire. Born in Dorchester Massachusetts on September 29, 1966 he grew up in Derry, NH and graduated from Pinkerton Academy in 1984. Several years after graduation, Shaun moved to Tampa, FL where he attended Tampa Technical Institute and received a Degree in Commercial Design and Illustration. He was a talented artist who created beautiful pieces, which are still treasured by his parents.

Shaun E Flaherty Jr was employed as a Store Manager for Pearl Art Supply in Tampa. Upon returning to Maine many years later, he worked for FedEx Ground, a job he loved and enjoyed. Being on the road satisfied his free spirit and love of driving.

Many who knew Shaun from his school years in Derry, and long after, will remember him as a loyal and genuine friend. He reminisced often and never forgot the good times he shared with his closest friends.

Ask his mother, Diana, and she will tell you what a gentle heart he had, and how sentimental he was, often reflecting on his carefree days as a young man in Derry or the many visits as a small child to his grandparents, thoroughly enjoying the affection and attention they always showed to him and his sister, Shannon.

Shaun loved animals and it pained him to see one abused or hurt. His own cat, Hobbs, was, as Shaun expressed, his greatest possession, and in their special relationship, Shaun referred to Hobbs as his “best buddy”. Hobbs perished with Shaun and we can only pray that Hobbs is still flopped across Shaun’s lap.

Shaun E Flaherty Jr was deeply loved by his family. He never hesitated to say how fortunate he was to have them and how much he loved them and appreciated all that they did for him though the years. Shaun and his sister, Shannon, had a very special “brother – sister” relationship. Diana loved nothing better than to hear the two of them laughing or joking about something personal or private that only the two of them shared. Shaun was especially close to his mother. Texting nightly with her, sharing pictures of Hobbs, playing a game, or endless conversations from sports to recipes were things they loved sharing. Shaun loved that he was half Italian, half Irish and found humor in learning Italian words to describe Hobbs’ eating habits.

Shaun was a die hard fan of the Red Sox and Patriots. He and Hobbs would sit for hours watching each and every game. His mother would root for them, not because she was a sports fan, but because she knew how happy Shaun would be if they won.

The best times were those when the family got together for birthday and holiday celebrations with lots of food and laughter. Shaun lived very close to his parents, so he enjoyed the many plates of Italian food brought to him by his mother.

Shaun E Flaherty Jr suffered a physical disability later in his life, one which he coped with as well as he could. With the constant support of his parents, sister and brother-in-law, his life was made easier.

His first love was unquestionably his family, he is survived by his parents Shaun Flaherty, Sr. and Diana Romano-Flaherty of Eliot, sister Shannon Flaherty-Nutter and husband, Randel Nutter of Salisbury, MA
uncle, Armando Romano and wife, Linda Weinberg of Carmel, CA and many cousins and friends.

He is predeceased by grandparents John and Veronica Flaherty of Westbrook and Adam and Elizabeth Romano of Portland and his Aunt Maryjane Flaherty

Because Shaun had a soft spot in his heart for animals, he would be most pleased if, in lieu of flowers, you made a donation to the New Hampshire SPCA, 104 Portsmouth Ave., Stratham, NH 03885
