Rockville Maryland – Robert Geier passed. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Edwin Geier (aka “Pop Pop”) of Kensington, Maryland on November 7, 2024 at the age of 84.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Eleanor (Louise) Geier and his three children and their spouses, Robert Jr (Lilly), Patricia (Ken) and Richard (Angie) and his four grandchildren (Logan, Adam, Taylor and Lauren).  Bob was the oldest of five – his three brothers (Tom (Connie), Jack (Connie), and Richard (Robin)) and his sister (Nancy (Dave)).  He is preceded in death by his mother (Helen Connolly), father (Edwin) and brother (Tom).

Born to Helen and Edwin Geier and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, Bob went to Avalon High School and graduated from Duquesne University with a B.S. degree in Accounting.  He met his beloved wife, Louise, at a New Year’s Eve Party and never looked back. They married in 1962, had three children and relocated to the Washington, DC area in 1969.

Bob made life-long friends at every phase of his life, whether it was through his work, in the neighborhood or on his and Louise’s many travels. He was at his happiest when having family and friends over at the house so that he could feed them and make them feel at home.  If you have ever asked Bob how he was doing, the answer was always a booming “I’m Incredible!!” and he truly always was!

While his wife, children and grandchildren were his greatest loves, Bob’s other passion was travel. The family made many US road trips in the early years; however, once Bob and Louise were empty-nesters, they expanded their horizons – visiting over 60 countries and seeing incredible things and meeting wonderful people along the way. Bob’s favorite part of traveling was meeting new people and learning about their lives.  He was especially thrilled to find Steelers fans around the world that shared the love of his hometown team.

Bob was a deeply beloved husband, father/father-in-law, grandfather, brother, cousin and friend to many.  It is clear that his life was richer due to family and friends and that his family and friends’ lives were richer for knowing him.  At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by his family which was exactly how he would have wanted it.

A Celebration of Life is being planned for early December. Details will be sent via email/text once scheduled.

Brattleboro VT

George S Haynes met his Lord and Savior on February 27, 2024, passing away following a brief illness and surrounded by his wife Rose and his children. Born in Brooklyn, New York on May 8, 1943, and raised in Bay Ridge, he forever carried fond memories of his childhood days growing up near Fort Hamilton and watching the ships sailing by the bay and soldiers marching in step. These memories were strong, despite his tender age. His family moved to North Bennington, Vermont in December of 1946 where they remained and where George and his brother Rick were raised.

In 1961, he began what would become a lifelong banking career, working in the bookkeeping department at Vermont Bank and Trust Company (now TD Bank). He quickly rose through the ranks, and by the age of 21 was named assistant manager. In 1967, at the age of 24, he became a branch manager and assistant treasurer, becoming the youngest to achieve an officer’s position in the bank’s history.

In 1977, George embarked on an endeavor that would define his style and compassion for the rest of his life, helping people financially by establishing an office of Consumer Credit Counseling, a nonprofit whose only concern was to help people manage debt without family or personal disaster. He initially served as Advisory Board Chairman and later was elected to serve on the board of directors. In 1985, he became President of the organization and remained in this position until 2008.

In 1982, George was asked to cover the retail credit department in Brattleboro. While this was intended to be a short term assignment, he remained for ten years, moving to Brattleboro and making it his forever home. During these ten years he rose through the ranks once again, eventually becoming Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Vermont Mortgage Group, and Senior Vice President of First Vermont Bank, both part of what is now TD Bank.

In 1991, George was approached by the search committee of The Brattleboro Savings and Loan and on January 27, 1992 he became President and Chief Executive Officer, serving until his retirement on December 31, 2007. Under his stewardship, the bank experienced unprecedented growth and received numerous awards and recognition, including two Community Bank Awards (in 2006 in recognition of its Community Person of the Month program, and in 2007 in recognition of Project Feed the Thousands). BS&L was voted the Best Bank in Brattleboro in the Brattleboro Reformer Readers Choice Awards in both 2006 and 2007 and was recognized by Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility as the 2007 recipient of its socially responsible Small Business of the Year.

George was very proud of the programs that he instituted during his tenure at BS&L, including Community Appreciation Day, the Community People Award, the establishment of a living wage policy for all employees, the commitment to donate 10% of net profits to local organizations, and first and foremost the establishment of Project Feed the Thousands in 1994. A stalwart of the Brattleboro community, George served on numerous boards and donated his time to a number of community organizations and services.

George’s retirement was predicated by a trip to China in April 2007, sponsored by the UVM Asian Studies Outreach Program. George was invited to join educators and students to learn more about education in China and to share his insights based on his commitment and experience with the bank branch at BUHS and Windham Regional Career Center. He suddenly gained new perspective and realized that there was a whole world out there waiting to be explored and he wanted to be a part of it.

A lifelong baseball and sports fan, George played semi-pro ball as a teenager and then became the power-hitter for local softball team BS&L where he helped the team win two championships. One of the main joys of his life was traveling around the country and Canada visiting ball fields with his son George, Jr. Although they did not make it to all 32 parks, they shared some special memories in the quest. He was, of course, thrilled to see his beloved Red Sox win the World Championship in 2004, and several more times thereafter.

On March 9, 2010, in St Augustine FL, George married Rose (Robertson) Cavanagh, the love of his life and forever soul mate. Together, they traveled the world and shared many wonderful adventures. His 70th birthday was spent in Bora Bora in an overwater bungalow in the lagoon. In addition to their international travels, George and Rose were proud to say that they had visited every state, taking two extended cross-country road trips in 2012 and 2015. Rose was his companion and partner and they built a beautiful life together. They made a point to spend time with family, including with his daughter Tiffany Finck-Haynes in Washington, DC and his son George and family in Cambridge, NY. He embraced Rose’s entire family, becoming a father to Rose’s four children, and was a beloved Pop-Pop and Grampa George to his many grandchildren and step-grandchildren.

George is survived by his wife Rose; his children Robin Haynes Gardner, George Spencer Haynes, Jr., (Eileen), Tiffany Finck-Haynes (Jorge Aguilar) and Spencer Haynes; and Melissa Cavanagh, Stephanie Cavanagh, Jessica Doleszny (John) and Gregory Cavanagh (Starr Bruce), along with many, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Rick Haynes (Sue); and by George, Jr., and Robin’s mother, Leona Center. A man that truly embraced his extended family, he is also survived by his mother-in-law, Irma Robertson, along with many, many members of both the Robertson and Cavanagh families. He was predeceased by his father Spencer Haynes and his treasured mother Roberta Stultz Haynes.

George was confident, courageous, intelligent, generous, and funny. He had nicknames for everyone. He could be very firm in his opinions and he loved a good debate. Even until his death, he lived his life on his own terms. Like the Chairman of the Board, he did things his way. His family, his dear friends, and the entire Brattleboro Community mourn his loss but will cherish many fond memories forever.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that anyone wishing to honor George’s legacy consider making a donation to Project Feed the Thousands, a not-for-profit organization whose sole goal is to provide food for local families. Along with his wife Rose, George remained active in Project Feed the Thousands from its inception in 1994 until 2024. He was very proud that, through his efforts and the efforts of the board and staff, they were able to serve (and continue to serve) thousands upon thousands of families, too many to put a number on. Checks can be mailed to Project Feed the Thousands, c/o 802 Credit Union, PO Box 8366, Brattleboro, VT 05304.

A celebration of George’s life will be held at the VFW on Black Mountain Rd., in Brattleboro, Vermont on Saturday, March 23rd, beginning at 2PM. His family invites everyone who knew and loved George to join them for light refreshments, fellowship, and the sharing of stories and memories – ‘For All The Right Reasons’.

Janaica, NY – Mary Ellen Kirton, also known as M.E.K., was born on October 31, 1933, to the late, Cleotha and Sandy Kirton in Marion, South Carolina, where she was raised and graduated from Marion High School.

Mary married her late husband, S.W. Evans on February 28, 1953, and later relocated her family to Queens, New York in 1960, where she worked at The Candy Factory for many years. Mary dedicated her life to the Lord in 1980, where she faithfully served as an usher board member at the Holy Ghost Revival COGIC for over 30 years. As a devoted church member, Sister Evans served the local community in feeding the homeless, assisted with clothing and food drives, and provided unlimited support to many outreach initiatives.

Mary was also a pillar in her local neighborhood where she would come to the aid of any person in need. She touched so many lives both near and far and humbly demonstrated the importance of helping others through her daily acts of service. Her unconditional love and passion to serve others is incredibly unmatched. With open doors and an open heart, Mary’s desire to help others was undeniable.

Mary loved to spend quality time with her family and friends, playing card games and BINGO, with Pitty Pat being one of her favorite card games. She enjoyed cooking and hosting family and friend gatherings, with an open invitation to anyone that wanted to partake. Some of everyone’s most favorite foods cooked by her, with flavorful seasonings and a pinch of love, is the infamous baked macaroni & cheese, potato salad, deviled eggs, collard greens, fried chicken, and her amazing pineapple upside down cake, just to name a few dishes. The aroma of her cooked food and her comical personality is what people gravitated to the most. Everyone who entered her home left with a good laugh, a full belly, and an unforgettable nickname. Mary also loved to collect and grow plants, so much that they would greet everyone at her front door and throughout her sunroom. With each one of them being welcomed into the family with their own special name.

Mary leaves us with so many sacred memories to last a lifetime, and for that, today we honor and celebrate her life and thank GOD for allowing us to be a part of her journey!

To welcome Mary into her heavenly home in her departure from this earthly life are….
Her three sons; Samuel Evans, Larry Evans, and Jerry Kirton. In addition, her
five sisters; Golda Lee Porter, Dora Brantley, Grace Ann Graves, Christine Brown, and Christina Fogan, as well as her three brothers; Johnnie Lee Kirton, J.B. Thomas, and Charlie Thomas.

Valley, NE – Harvey John Soll was born on Aug. 12, 1934, in Bennington, Nebraska, the youngest of eight children, to Henry and Katie (Hagedorn). His father died when he was just 2 years old. They moved around to several locations before settling in Clarks, Nebraska, at age 4. When he was 15 his mother passed away. Harvey ended up moving to the Charles Warren farm by Gretna with his brother, Lester. It was during this time that Harvey met Helen K. Ehlers at a dance in Millard, Nebraska, and while talking they found out their parents knew each other when they all lived by Bennington when Harvey and Helen were just infants.

Harvey married Helen on Aug. 20, 1955. They were married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Benson, Nebraska. They moved in January 1957 to Valley, where he worked for a cattle feeder and farmer until he was drafted into the Army. After basic training, he was stationed at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma. Helen joined him and Harvey Gene was born in November of 1958. They remained in Oklahoma until he left the Army Artillery Unit in January 1959.

Coming home from Lawton as Specialist Fourth Class – Honorable Discharge, Harvey and family moved to Herman where Harvey farmed with David Rasmusson. Harvey was able to move his family to Clyde Allen farm in Valley, Nebraska, in fall of 1959. During this time he and family joined St Mark’s Lutheran Church. Ricky John was born in November 1962. Harvey would continue farming for Ed Miller and then Don Rogert then farmed and retired from Robinson Seed Company.

Many times he said, “I was born on a farm, worked on a farm, and retired on a farm.” His true love was Helen who after 60 years of marriage passed away Nov. 16, 2015. He and Helen were always together and from 2010-2015, he was the best caregiver she could have ever had. He was even known to teach a nurse (or 2-3) how to change and clean her colostomy bag.

He loved and cared for his family, Gene and Jeri (Place) and Rick and grandkids, Brad (Frankie) Soll – Arlington, Nebraska, Katie (Brandon) Banks – Crescent City, California, Becca (Eric) Miller – Fort Dodge, Iowa, Melinda (Logan) Keene – Baxter, Tennessee, and Erik (Calli) Soll – Arlington.

He was so proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren that he would say, “I have five beautiful and healthy grandkids and 16 great-grandchildren that are amazing and healthy”.

Moscow, Idaho – Jeannine Petersen, 87, moved from Good Samaritan Village in Moscow, right into the arms of Jesus on Friday, October 21, 2022.

Born Nova Jeannine Blaylock on August 13, 1935 in Lubbock, Texas, Jeannine was the 7th of 8 children born to Forrest and Vida (Acuff) Blaylock.

Her father passed away when she was 10 years old. Her mother gathered her younger children, packed up the car and moved to Salinas, CA in 1941. Jeannine shared many memories about life in Salinas during WWII: from the food and gas rations, her mother driving home from her laundromat  job with the lights out, hanging blankets over the windows during blackouts, and a soldier knocking on the door if it wasn’t done correctly.

But there were good memories, too. Walking to and from school with her big brother, Troy, saving enough pennies so she and her younger sister, Francine, could go to the movie shows or the rodeo, riding Nini the nice horse while Francine had to ride the mule, who, we hear, was not so nice. Jeannine and Francine created many memories while their niece, Jackie, lived with them. Only 3 years younger than Francine, the three girls were very close. Those were the good memories during the hard times and Jeannine cherished them her entire life.

Jeannine, big brother Troy and little sister Francine moved with their mother to Moscow, Idaho in 1949. Jeannine met Bernard Petersen in 1950, and they married in 1955. They lived at the Petersen family farm in the Lenville area. Jeannine settled into the farm life and worked hard for years cooking for hired men, feeding cows, gardening, canning, sewing and other farm chores. She babysat neighbor children when needed.

Jeannine and Bernard adopted daughter Debra in 1959, and daughter Dawn  in 1961.
Jeannine was a member of the Moscow Garden Club. She loved growing flowers, and she entered many arrangements in the Latah County Fair.
Before Bernard’s death in 2004, he and Jeannine spent many weekends traveling to gun shows, cruising around in their little MG, and spending time with the grandkids. After she became a widow, she went on many trips with the “Roadrunners” senior group and spent time with friends having coffee and shopping.

Jeannine was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ralph, Earl, Edward and Troy, sisters Zula and Maxine.

She is survived by her sister Francine (Sam) Roos of Sandpoint, ID, daughters Debbie (Jeff) Meshishnek, Dawn (Brad) Foiles-Roach who all live on the family farm, grandchildren Chris, Lisa, Jeffrey and Jason, and four great grandchildren.

There will be a graveside service at 1 PM Friday, October 28 at the Moscow Cemetery followed by a gathering at Debbie’s home.
Donations may be made to the Genesee Ambulance Fund or The Lewiston Children’s Home.

Jeannine’s family would like to sincerely thank the caring people at Good Samaritan as well as Marie from Hospice for taking such great care of Jeannine. We are truly grateful.

Gonzales, Ca — Maria Guadalupe Trujillo Albarran, 66, of Gonzales, California passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 18, 2019 in Salinas after lengthy medical conditions. She was born October 12, 1952 in Santa Inez, Guanajuato, Mexico as the daughter of Gonzalo Albarran Perea and Agustina Perez Cano.

Maria Guadalupe Trujillo Albarran

Maria is now reunited in heaven with her father Gonzalo Albarran Perea, brother Vernardo Albarran, and her little brother Rafael Albarran.

Maria Guadalupe Trujillo Albarran and Antonio Trujillo Alberto met in Santa Ines, Guanajuato, Mexico. They married in Nuevo Chupicuaro, Guanajuato, Mexico in 1971. They lived in La Loma Bonita in Gunajuato, Mexico after they married.

She came to live in Monterey County in 1975, and worked in agriculture in the Salinas Valley. She was very loving, humble, caring, and supportive with a Heart of Gold. She came from Mexico in 1974, with a purpose in mind so that her children would have a better future. Her dream was for her children to continue with their education, careers, and be happy. Anyone that knew her would agree that she was concerned more with the needs and wishes of others than with her own. At the table, she would feed everyone else before herself no matter if it was with immediate family or large gatherings. She was a homemaker who devoted her life to her children, husband, grandchildren, great-grandchild, daughter in laws, son in laws, and extended family. Also, her friends in the community were very important to her; she loved living in Gonzales.

Maria loved cross-stitching pillow cases , cooking delicious mole, tamales, enchiladas, chiles rellenos, ground beef and smashed potato fried tacos with salsa, sour cream, and lettuce, sopes, you name it. All her food was delicious. Her favorite food was clam chowder sold in Monterey, California. She loved Lasagna.

Maria is survived by her husband Antonio Trujillo Alberto and 6 children; Rosa Rodriguez, Antonio Trujillo, Laura Trujillo, Mariano Trujillo, Marisa Trujillo, and Maria G. Trujillo. She had 22 grandchildren; Jazmin Jimenez, Mayra Jimenez, Ruby Trujillo, Alfredo Rodriguez III, Natalie Trujillo, Rolando Perez, Anthony Rodriguez, Mark Rodriguez, Jennifer Perez, Jackeline Jimenez, Alexandra Jimenez, Crystal Trujillo, Aliyah Trujillo, Julie Venegas, Alice Trujillo, Cuauhtemoc Perez, Isaiah Trujillo Gandara, Cesar Trujillo Gandara, Jiselle Venegas, Jocelyn Venegas, Mia Trujillo Gandara, Marbella Hernandez, and one great grandson, Efren Jimenez. She is also survived by her mother, Agustina Perez Cano, her sisters and brother; Maria Del Carmen Albarran, Angela Albarran, Lourdes Albarran, Agustina Albarran, and Gonzalo Albarran.

The Trujillo family hosted a celebration of life for Maria Guadalupe Trujillo on Thursday, May 23, 2019, at Saint Theodore’s Catholic Church. The viewing was held from 5 p.m. to 7p.m and the Rosary was from from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. There was a mass on Friday, May 24, 2019, 1 p.m. at Saint Theodore’s Catholic Church located at 116 South Belden St. Gonzales, CA 93926, and after mass, the Gonzales Cemetery was the place for her burial on 1000 US-101 in Gonzales, California.
