WHITE CREEK, NY – Maryanne Nesbitt, 76, of White Creek, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 23, 2018 at her summer cottage on Hedges Lake with her children by her side. Maryanne was born in Troy, NY on July 16, 1942.  She was the daughter of the late Gordon Joel and Marian (Dressel) Nesbitt. Maryanne graduated from Hoosick Falls High School as salutatorian of her class in 1959. She later attended North Adams State College and received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1990.Maryanne began her career in finance as a bookkeeper for Polygraphic Co. in North Bennington, Vermont. Hired in 1972 by United Counseling Service in Bennington, she advanced to become the Chief Financial Officer and retired from that position in 2006 after 33 years of service. Maryanne’s home and gardens are an elegant expression of her love for natural beauty.

Activities

Maryanne Nesbitt was an avid reader, enjoyed skiing, swimming, and adored her pets.  She was also a strong supporter of Special Olympics and the Big Brother and Big Sister programs. She volunteered for the Cambridge Public Library and served on the board. She is survived by her two children, Mark Robert Okerman of Milwaukee, WI and Bethany A. Okerman of White Creek; a brother, Thomas Dressel Nesbitt and his wife Linda of Waterbury Center, VT; a niece and nephew, Jennie Zea and David Nesbitt, both of Northfield, VT.

Services

A calling hour and short service took place from 10-11:30 am on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at the Ackley, Ross & Gariepy Funeral Home, 73 West Main St., Cambridge.  All were invited to a gather in celebration of Maryanne at the family cottage on Nesbitt Road, Hedges Lake following the service. Make Memorial contributions in memory of Maryanne to the Special Olympics or Big Brother and Big Sister programs.
