David had a long and complicated medical history that began in 1991 when he was 21 with 4 cerebral aneurysms.  Some of the other larger medical challenges that David faced were a pseudo obstruction/malabsorption (1998-2005), small bowel transplant (2005), and kidney transplant (2015). David was often referred to as a “project” by many of his doctors; but he was so much more than a patient.  His medical condition may have dictated how he spent much of his time; but it never defined who he was.  He lived a life full of optimism, joy and hope for the future.  He did not let his medical issues get in the way of leading his life the way he wanted.

David was a network engineer and during his career he worked at Capital One, HSBC, Millward Brown and SBC.  He loved his work which entailed designing, implementing, troubleshooting and restoring WAN/LAN networks.  He held two Bachelor degrees.  The first was a Bachelor of Arts from Western Illinois University with a major in Political Science and a minor in Music Business (1993).  The second was a Bachelor of Science from DeVry Institute of Technology with a major in Telecommunications Management (2001).  Prior to his death he was also studying for his Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA) certification.

Relationships were the most important thing to David; he left behind a tribe of supporters affectionally called Team David.  The doctors at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, the Joy! Lutheran Church community, and many friends.   David was all about helping others and finding small ways to give back to others suffering with complex medical conditions.  David also had a large extended family from North Carolina that he loved dearly and always looked forward to long visits with.

David had an immediate family that loved him dearly that he was 110% committed to and loved unconditionally.  This love was fully returned. The last things that David said to his son Ryan were: I love you, I am glad you are my son, I am proud of you, and lastly do your homework!  As his wife, David saw me for who I was and loved me for my flaws (not in spite of them).  He embraced my personal brand of crazy and my family.  What a gift it was to go out to the world and just be “me” because I had David’s love.  He was the love of my life.

Other things David enjoyed doing with his time were family genealogy research, working jigsaw puzzles, following politics, listening to music, eating food (mac and cheese was a favorite), watching baseball (Cubs), traveling the world, going to museums, driving fun cars and playing with our two doggies (Bailey and Hope).

David will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.  Services and a celebration of life party were held in February of 2020.
